The weather was perfect over the weekend, so with extended family in town, we spent every moment we could outside. First up, a hike to the highest peak in SC...Sassafras Mtn.
I took that picture early on the trail because it was the only time we were in front of the young ones. After a few minutes, it looked like this for the rest of the hike.Families are the compass that guide us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter. -- Brad Henry

Party!
Parties are just not my thing, but with two graduates, we wanted to do something.
Ashlyn picked up decorations and created a quick invitation. Eric and his brother were in charge of the beer. I ordered the food.
What was initially just a few people in our back yard turned into about 50 of our closest friends and neighbors at the clubhouse.
We even found a bartender and photographer at the right price (free). So thankful that we had family in town to help us with everything. From set up to clean up, they were the BEST!
Luke's friends stopped by to grab a bite and wish him well.
Ashlyn's besties growing up!
Can't miss a photo opportunity with Alex!
Her sweet friend from UofSC before she studies abroad!
Congratulations to both our kiddos on all you've accomplished! 🏆You deserve this moment of celebration!!

Doctor
After 4 years of long nights, little sleep, and lots of stress throughout medical school, Ashlyn officially became a doctor!
Then a picture with just her beau, Alex.

9th Grade Wrap
As our youngest wraps up 9th grade, we have a collage of end of year pics to post. First is some ROTC pictures. Her Navy Junior ROTC class was held during 2nd semester, and although she won't be taking the class again, she enjoyed the experience.
Next is her awards ceremony. Our little smartie got the highest grade in Biology Honors, the highest grade in AP Human Geography, the Renaissance Award (academic and behavorial excellence), and she lettered in academics.
A pic with one of her besties...

Joe/Linda
While family was in town, we wanted to treat them to a little fun. First up, a trolly ride to the Greenville Drive baseball game!
Next, a sightseeing trip to one of the key Revolutionary War battles...the Battle of Cowpens.
It poured down rain while we were there, so we missed out on seeing as much as we would have liked.
Once the rain stopped, a school bus filled with students pulled in and that was our que to leave. So we grabbed some local cuisine like a Carolina chili dog (hot dog with chili and cole slaw on top), a Beacon burger a-plenty (chili hamburger with onion rings and french fries piled high on top), and some shrimp & grits (official state food for SC).
Even the little one got to enjoy the day with us since it wasn't a school day! I think she approved.

Commissioning
After four years at the University of South Carolina spending weekends, early mornings, and a significant portion of his time with the Army ROTC program....
...our son graduated cum laude from the University of SC with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the Darla Moore School of Business and a minor in Military Sciences! At the same time, he transitioned from being enlisted to being an officer in the US Army.
His class all took their oath together as newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenants, then each walked across the stage as their name was called. A 4-star general was the first to shake his hand.
We then followed our new officer over to take his second oath to support our state through the National Guard.
I was so proud!!! 💙 This is where he received his plaque.
Once fully commissioned, his rank was pinned on by his dad, Eric, and his grandpa Mike.
For his first salute, he asked his favorite NCO (non-commissioned officer) to take that role. The NCO salutes him, and for the first time, Lt. McConnell returns the salute back.
This event was the first time we saw him in uniform. Luke did a great job keeping it hidden from us. We were beaming with pride at his accomplishments and his decision to serve our country! He is so handsome, and we are so proud to be his family. First, a photo with the parents....

Opening Game
Our professional home baseball team, the Greenville Drive, had their opening game on a chilly Friday evening mid-April. I was given some sweet tickets to the rooftop at Fluor Field complete with an open bar and free food!
The views were spectacular! I didn't capture the fireworks in time, but it was an awesome experience to watch from this location.
My dates were the best, too!
These seats basically spoiled me from ever enjoying general seating again. So bougie!
